This Nokia 3310 LCD & Joystick shield can be used for Arduino /Freeduino board and other MCU projects. It has following features:

Use popular Nokia 3310 LCD, monochrom, 84x48 pixels.
Has 4 blue LED backlight for the LCD, so you'll be use it at night.
Has a 5-direction Joystick , but only use ONE ADC PIN on Arudino for reading the Joystick.
Directly plug into the Arduino or Freeduino boards
Can be connected to other MCU projects, via extend connector J5
Supplied with fully functional Arduino library & demo application sketch

Programming Notes

The Nokia 3310 LCD is controlled by Arduino's SPI port at 5V logic, the schematic can be download from here Nokia 3310 LCD shield v1.0 with Joystick

5-direction Joystick -- This is used to provide user input for the Nokia 3310 LCD,.To save the precious digital I/O pin resource. The Joystick only uses ONE A/D channel – AD0. The 5 pushbuttons are connected to AD0 via a 5-stage resistor voltage divider, please refer to the schematic for details.

nokia_3310_lcd Library & Demo application

The Nokia_3310_lcd library provides basic graphic functions that can initialize the 3310 LCD, draw strings with normal & big fonts and draw bitmap. Some of the results can be seen in the photos on the left hand side. The Demo application also provide an interrupt-driven Joystick control routine, which can be used to accept user inputs and menu navigation.

Download the nokia_3310_lcd library HERE
Unzip the library inside arduino-0011/hardware/libraries/
Start the Arduino IDE and import the nokia_3310_lcd library.
You might run the demo application nokia_3310_menu.pde to test the LCD and the Joystick. The result is shown on the photos on the left.
